Updated on 1/8/2010 The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publications of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official. The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from such alteration of specifications. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final. 1. WHEEL BASE A. The minimum average wheel base is 103”. NO TOLERANCE. B. Rear suspension configuration is optional, but no devices allowed of any kind that are designed to change the wheel base of the car while in competition, will be permitted. Control arms with rubber bushings not permitted on the rear of the car. NO TRACTION CONTROL DEVICES ALLOWED. 2. ENGINE A. All engine casting numbers stamped on the engine will be left on the block at the bell housing area. B. NO welding, grinding, or epoxying of block numbers will be allowed. Block numbers will be stamped by the tech inspectors if needed. C. Spec Head only will be a GM Bowtie Cylinder Head. Part #10134392, 14011058 or 12480034, casting #14011034. Ford #M-6049-N351. The Mopar/Chrysler spec Head part numbers are P5249769 (cast. #4532693) and P4529446. The Only Chrysler “R” Block that will be allowed is #4876791AB. These heads will be allowed with NO modifications except surfacing and 3 angle valve jobs. Maximum valve size, all engines, is 1.60 inches exhaust and 2.055 inches intake. D. No aluminum blocks or heads. Aluminum water pumps will be allowed. No dry sump systems or external wet sump allowed. Engine must be self starting. E. Engines must have stock crankshaft stroke for engine block use. After market harmonic balancers will be allowed. F. Stock or roller rocker arms optional. NO stud girdles. Screw-in or pinned rocker studs will be allowed. No roller cams. No shaft mounted rocker arms allowed on any GM or Ford models. No mushroom, roller or radial lifters allowed. GM may use Ford lifter size (.874) only. G. No magnetos! Battery operated ignitions only. May use only one 12 volt 6 cell standard production design battery. Only one battery per car must be used for both starting and ignition systems. Electronic ignition systems are permitted, but must be mounted in stock location and maintain the same firing order as factory produced engine (No crank-triggered ignitions). MSD 6A, 6AL or 6ALN, 6T or 6AN Ignition Box. Only one box per car mounted out of the driver’s reach. Only one high end RPM limiter chip may be used. After-market distributors will be allowed. Alternators optional but must be 12 volt standard design. H. NO TITANIUM ENGINE PARTS PERMITTED at all (except Valve Spring Retainers) I. NO engine may have more than 360 c.i. (the exception is Ford & Mopar, they may be 365 c.i.) No engine may have more than 11.0:1 compression ratio 3. ENGINE LOCATION A. All competing models are allowed a maximum engine set back of 8”. to be measured from the center of the forward most spark plug hole to the center of upper ball joint. B. All engines must be mounted so that the crankshaft is within 2 1/2” of the center line of the fixed ball joints. 4. INTAKE A. Spec Intake The following intake manifolds, stock and untouched will be mandatory on all engines: GM - Edelbrock Torker II #5001 or Performer #2101. Ford - Edelbrock Torker II #5081 or Performer #2181. Mopar - Edelbrock Torker II #5076 or Performer #2176. P5249572 or P5249572AB 5. CARBURETORS AND AIR CLEANERS A. The only acceptable carburetor for the late model class will be the two barrel holley #4412, 500 C.F.M. Model, with alterations only as listed below. B. Choke plate may be removed. Choke housing must remain in place. May change Jets and power valve. No Dial-A-Jet. No vacuum leads between air cleaner and intake manifold. C. Adapter plate, and/or spacer, AND gaskets may not exceed 1 1/2”. D. Only one round stock-appearing top and bottom air cleaner may be used. Maximum size will be 14” diameter by 4” thick. Stock-appearing (both top and bottom) air cleaners only. No air boxes or flow-enhancing devices of any kind. Air cleaner top and bottom must be made of solid metal. E. No “carb” hats or other air flow devices will be allowed. No air boxes. No spacer will be allowed between bottom of air cleaner and carburetor. NO EXCUSES!! F The accelerator pump squirter may not extend into the area directly above the Venturi (tech purposes). 6. CLUTCH FLYWHEEL AND BELL HOUSING A. Flywheel must bolt directly to the crankshaft and rotate at engine RPM. High speed multiple disc clutches are permitted. B. All competing models must be equipped with a flywheel and an operable starter and must be able to get in and out of gear with the engine running and standing still. C. Aluminum bell housing will be permitted, but if clutch is mounted inside, then bell housing must have scattershield similar to what the modifieds run (270 degree, 4” x 1/8” shield around flex plate or flywheel). 7. FUEL AND FUEL CELLS A. SUNOCO STANDARD, 110 OCTANE PURPLE IS THE ONLY FUEL ALLOWED. NO ADDITIVES OR MIXING OF ANY KIND. WITH PURHCASE FROM MID-NEBR SPEEDWAY FUEL POINTS FUND WILL BE ADDED AT END OF SEASON. Fuel will be tested after each feature and must have a negative reading with a digitron fuel tester. Any positive reading will be considered illegal and a cause for D.Q. B. Commercially manufactured fuel cells mandatory. Maximum fuel cell capacity is 32 gallons and cannot extend below bottom of rear end and encased in a steel container. C. All fuel cells must be secured to the frame of the car, and must be mounted in frame work similar to the Late Model rule sheet. D. All cars must be equipped with a fuel cell guard that is mounted separate of the fuel cell and mounted securely to the frame of the car. E. Fuel cell guard must be made of at least 1 1/2” tubing and must extend to the bottom of the fuel cell. F. MECHANICAL FUEL PUMPS ONLY mounted in stock location on engine. No electric or belt driven fuel pumps allowed. 8. CHASIS AND EXHAUST A. All headers must have collectors on them, and must exit under car and pointed toward the rear of the race car. No 180 degree headers or zoomies. B. all front suspensions must be of A-frame type. Rack and pinion steering is allowed. Only one shock and steel spring per wheel. One dummy shock or limiting devise will be allowed on left rear only. No remote reservoir shocks, no Schrader valves or gas relief / refill parts allowed. 9. TRANSMISSION/REAR ENDS A. All transmissions must be track approved prior to competition. B. O.E. M. production 3 or 4 speed transmissions that are catalogued through dealer channels will be permitted. No 5 speed transmissions or over drive transmissions allowed. No automatic transmissions allowed. C. All transmissions must have at least 2 speeds forward and reverse in working order at all times and must bolt directly to the rear of the engine block. D. Steel drive shafts only and must be two inches minimum outside diameter and universal joints that are in a similar design to standard production will be permitted and must be painted white. E. all cars must have a 360 degree hoop toward front of drive shaft, made of at least 1/4” by 2” steel strap. Must be 6” back from front U joint. F. It is recommended to have a drive-shaft hoop built out of 4 or 5 inch diameter by 6 inch long round tubing. G. Quick change, heavy-duty, locked or full floating rear-ends are optional NO open tube or cambered rear ends allowed. H Rear end coolers may be used, but cannot be mounted inside of the driver’s compartment. I. The rear tread width can be no wider than the front tread width. The rear tread width offset can not extend beyond the front tread width either side. 10. ROLL CAGES A. All cars are required to use a roll cage with at least 3 horizontal bars across the driver’s door. B. All cars will be required to have a vent window bar, and a bar in the center of the roll cage over the driver’s head. (or roof bar from left front windshield bar to the right main roll cage hoop.) All cars will be required to have a bar for the purpose of protecting the driver’s feet. C. All batteries must be securely fastened and mounted between the frame rails and ahead of the fuel cell. No mirrors, radios, computers or cameras permitted. 11. RADIATOR A. Only one radiator for the purpose of cooling water. a 360 degree metal fan shroud will be mandatory. Radiator screens must be behind the bumper line. 12. WHEELS AND BRAKES A. Only steel or aluminum wheels will be permitted. No ceramic or carbon fiber parts allowed anywhere on the race car. B. Maximum wheel width is 12” bead-lock wheel is allowed (3/4” maximum) on the rear of the car only. Only foam wheel covers allowed. C. Rotors or brake drums must be made out of steel. No ceramic or any other coating permitted on surface of rotors or brake drums. 13. BODIES A. All competing models must be enclosed from the bumper to the deck lid between the frame rails. The enclosure panel must be securely fastened. B. Minimum panel width 36 inches. No holes or louvers allowed. Bodies must be mounted in a similar manner to stock appearing. C. Stock appearing nose panels will have a maximum width of 72”. NO WEDGE NOSES WILL BE ALLOWED. Length of nose will be the same as the Late Model measurements. All cars must have a hook, or a bar. The new length measurement of the nose piece for all models will be 45” from center of hub to front edge of nose. The maximum width of flare in front of the front tires is 84” See diagram on enclosed pages for all body measurements. D. All cars must use stock appearing production manufactured nose panel. Any bars ahead of the nose panel must be approved by the track officials. E. All competing make and models will have a maximum rear spoiler height of 8” measured from the deck, and will include all spoiler material. F. All competing models will have a maximum rear spoiler width of 72”. Recommendation: don’t let spoiler hang over the back edge of the car. Make your bumper the farthest point. G. All competing models will be permitted to use 3 spoiler braces. Spoiler braces may be 18” at base and may have up to a 1/2” break in them. H. All spoiler braces will be required to be no higher than 3” at the front of the base and can be no higher or extend rearward past the rear spoiler. I . Left and right side rear roof panels must be the same length and design. J. Roofs may be made of fiberglass, steel or aluminum, but must meet specifications as set forth in the rules, and must be approved by the officials. K. All roof panels must have front mounting posts and rear roof panels. Rear roof panels will be a minimum of 12 inches and a maximum of 24 inches at the base of the panel. The rear roof panels must extend to the quarter panels, left and right side. The front roof posts must extend to the fenders on both sides, and be a minimum 1” wide. 14. WEIGHT A. All models competing must weigh 2450 lbs. after the race, with driver. 15. TIRES A. ONLY HOOSIER 88.0, 90.0 OR 92.0 x 11 x 15 W.R.S.-2 D55 WILL BE ALLOWED. WITH PURCHASE FROM MID-NEBR SPEEDWAY TIRE POINTS FUND WILL BE ADDED AT END OF SEASON. Factory grooving of tires only. No softening or siping allowed. 16. CAR PROTEST PROCEDURES A. Within 5 minutes after the race, any driver finishing fifth on back that has not been lapped by the fourth place driver can for $250 protest any engine finishing in the top four positions. Under this protest, the following may be inspected: CUBIC INCH AND COMPRESSION TEST ON ENGINE, INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL AT WHICH TIME INSPECTION OF CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS AND INTAKE RUNNERS ON INTAKE AND HEADS ARE INSPECTED. $200 will be returned to protester if car is found illegal. If car being protested is found legal $200 protest fee will be paid to car being protested. $50.00 of protest fee goes to the Track Points Fund regardless of the outcome. Refusal to submit to protest will result in DISQUALIFICATION. B. Drivers are the only legal protesters! Track officials have the right to protest any car and tear down at any time no charge. 17. SAFETY A. All drivers must wear an approved safety helmet (Snell SA2000 or SA2005) at all times the car is on the track. Full face helmet, with tear off shield and solid center steering wheels recommended. Fireproof gloves, and “u” neck braces mandatory. B. All cars must have seat belts and shoulder harness securely fastened to the frame or roll bar. They must be of the approved racing type with quick release aircraft-type hookups. No stock type seat belts are allowed! Belts must be 2” wide (3” recommended) shoulder, and 3” wide lap (crotch required). Shoulder harnesses must be securely mounted to the roll cage no higher than 2” above shoulder level. Belts no older than 3 years, and sternum belt. C. Firesuits of at least a fire-retardant (fire resistant recommended) material will be mandatory. All roll bars within the drivers area MUST be padded. D. A protective screen is required on 2/3 of the windshield opening, starting on the driver’s side, supported by a minimum of 3 equally spaced braces. E. Ballast (extra weight) added to the car for weight rule conformance must consider all provisions of safety and must be securely fastened. Ballast must be bolted to the main frame or cage only. No Ballast may be mounted above the interior deck, or rub rails, or to body mounts. Weights must be drilled with two 1/2” studs coming through each weight for fasteners. NO BALLAST BLOCKS LESS THAN 5 LBS WILL BE ALLOWED. Ballast must be painted white and stamped with your car number. F. Air cleaners must be on the race car at all times. A fire extinguisher will be required in your race car. Window nets are mandatory in driver’s door. 18. NUMBERS AND IDENTIFICATION A. Late Model car numbers must be 18 inches tall and 3 inches wide, and must be located on both sides of the car. An 18” tall roof number is mandatory, and base of number should be on passenger side of roof (number facing grandstands.) B. A number plate at least 6 inches square with number painted on, affixed to the passenger windshield area, so as not to obstruct vision is mandatory. 19. ANY RULES MAY BE ADDED, CHANGED OR ALTERED AT ANY TIME IF DEEMED NECESSARY FOR THE INTENT OF THE CLASS. ALL DECISIONS BY THE TRACK ARE BINDING. ALL PROTEST RULINGS ARE FINAL AND BINDING. NOTICE: DISQUALIFICATION MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF ALL POINTS UP TO THAT POINT OF YEAR, BECAUSE OF DRIVER LICENSE POINTS FUND. REMEMBER TO BUILD WITHIN THE RULES!! |
